Launching Ceremony of the "Harmonious Mental Space" China Spatial Art and Construction Exhibition 2021 Successfully Held

On June 16, 2021, the launching ceremony of the "Harmonious Mental Space" China Spatial Art and Construction Exhibition 2021 was successfully held at Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research ("the Academy"), marking the start of a new journey for this national large-scale exhibition on the road to the integration and innovative development of art and science. The leaders present at the ceremony included Prof. WANG Guobin, Secretary General on behalf of the Environmental Design Art Committee of China Artists Association; Prof. SONG Limin, Director of the Department of Environmental Art Design, and Associate Prof. LI Chaoyang, Secretary of Party Branch of the Department of Environmental Art Design, on behalf of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University ("AADTHU"); Prof. MA Kexin, from the School of Architectural Art & Design, Prof. ZHANG Wang, Deputy Director of the School of Architectural Art & Design, and Associate Prof. JIN Changjiang, Director of the Teaching Office of the School of Architectural Art & Design, on behalf of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts; Prof. ZHU Li, on behalf of the School of Architecture and Art of Central South University; Associate Prof. CHEN Shufei, Deputy Director of the School of Art, on behalf of Shandong Jianzhu University; and Prof. LI Quantao, Deputy Director of the School of Art and Design, on behalf of Qingdao University of Technology. Other guests invited and were present included Prof. ZHANG Yue, Associate Prof. LIU Tiejun, Associate Prof. HUANG Yan, Associate Prof. LI Sa, Teacher LIU Donglei, and Secretary CHENG Yongfeng, from AADTHU; ZHANG Jinrong, Director of the office of Zhuangshi; and WANG Haochen, a teacher from the Department of Industrial Design, College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Qingdao University.

 

WANG Jiansong, Executive Vice President of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, presided over the launching ceremony and delivered a welcome message to the leaders and guests present for the event, while Secretary General WANG Guobin, Director SONG Limin, Prof. MA Kexin and Prof. ZHU Li delivered their respective messages on behalf of the organizers of the exhibition.

WANG Jiansong, Vice President of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, hosts the launching ceremony and delivers a welcome message

On behalf of the Academy, Vice President WANG Jiansong extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars present for the launching ceremony and introduced the construction of the site and facilities of the Academy as well as the various preparations the Academy had done for the smooth holding of the exhibition. He said that, based on the successful experience of previous exhibitions, the exhibition this year would be an event to showcase the teaching achievements of major art and design schools across China and was also vested with several important implications. First, this exhibition would allow teachers and students from major art and design schools in China to be trained in the interaction and integration of various disciplines in the design; Second, the exhibition could break the boundaries among major institutions to promote exchange and cooperation among them, forming a comprehensive teaching alliance and promoting the development of the teaching of design disciplines in China; Third, the exhibition would be used to further advance the integration of art and science, and to encourage the exhibiting teams to conceptualize their works from the perspectives of both art and science. The Academy hopes that the exhibition would become a broad and inclusive platform open to the community, promoting its art and cultural philosophy to the society and truly realizing its ambition for arts to serve people's life and the public. 

 

WANG Guobin, Secretary General of the Environmental Design Art Committee of China Artists Association, delivers a speech

On behalf of the Environmental Design Art Committee of China Artists Association, Mr. WANG Guobin emphasized the importance of the exhibition in implementing the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech. During his visit to AADTHU, General Secretary Xi Jinping had pointed out the need for arts to play an important role in serving the economic and social development, applying more art and artistic elements to urban and rural planning and construction and enhancing the aesthetics and cultural presentation of cities and towns, so as to better serve the people's needs for quality lives with the results of art. The theme of the exhibition this year is "Arts, Crafts, Science and Technology", with an emphasis on the integration and innovation of art and science, which is a powerful response to and an important implementation of the speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping. At present, the Environmental Design Art Committee of China Artists Association is promoting the construction of "two real, one virtual and multi-point" academic pattern, and the exhibition, as an important part of it, is vested with the important task of serving social and economic development and vigorously developing aesthetic education.

SONG Limin, Director of the Department of Environmental Art Design of AADTHU, delivers a speech

On behalf of AADTHU, Mr. Song Limin expressed his confidence and determination to do a good job with the exhibition. The Department of Environmental Art Design of AADTHU had conducted a preview of the exhibition in advance, which had provided excellent practical training to the participating students and also yielded plenty of outstanding academic results, leaving us with high expectations to see the academic and creative works of this year's exhibition. The exhibition would help us to pass on and carry forward the legacy of spatial design, which has a profound historical accumulation in the Department of Environmental Art Design at AADTHU. Mr. Song also expressed his wish that the exhibition would effectively promote the development of teaching, learning, research and exchange in AADTHU, allowing for the organic integration of basic and practical courses and the long-term development of interdisciplinary courses.

 

Prof. MA Kexin, from the School of Architectural Art & Design of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, delivers a speech

Prof. MA Kexin, on behalf of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, reviewed the wonderful results of previous exhibitions and expressed his good wishes for a great success for the current exhibition. With the rapid development of China's economy, the level of educational development and our ability to train talents should also keep pace with such development. The exhibition has provided educators with a platform for teaching experiments, and stimulated in students a sense of collective honor and facilitated them to put into practice what they have learned from books. Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research is an important base for practice to realize the integration and innovation of art and science, as well as a nurturing base for innovative talents in the new century, and it is a historic and innovative practice for the exhibition to be hosted in the Academy. LuXun Academy of Fine Arts has been working tirelessly in the construction and development of the People's Republic of China. Prof. MA expressed his great pleasure in seeing the true elevation of the educational philosophy to an international level by art and design educators and their putting into effect practical projects that would help cultivate talents.

Prof. ZHU Li, from the School of Architecture and Art of Central South University, delivers a speech

On behalf of the School of Architecture and Art of Central South University, Prof. ZHU Li expressed several expectations for the future development of the exhibition. He wished that the exhibition would explore a unique path for development, orienting towards the exploration in Spatial Sociology and that in the integrating and innovative path of art and science. Prof. ZHU also expressed his expectation that this exhibition would be a great opportunity to take the art and design disciplines to a new level through the unity and collaboration of all parties.

After the speech, Mr. WANG Jiansong unveiled the program of the exhibition and its image identity system. The exhibition is sponsored by the Environmental Design Art Committee of China Artists Association, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University ("AADTHU"), the School of Architecture and Art of Central South University and LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, organized by Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research ("the Academy"), and co-organized by the Environmental Art Committee of the China Construction Culture and Art Association, Guangdong Phonpa Home Technology Co., Ltd., Shandong University of Architecture, Qingdao University and Qingdao University of Technology. With the theme of "Arts, Crafts, Science and Technology", the exhibition is intended to guide the teachers and students from the institutions participating in the exhibition to explore how fine art, art, science and technology could be integrated to facilitate high-quality social, economic and cultural development.

Subsequently, Deputy Director ZHANG Wang, on behalf of the School of Architectural Art and Design of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, and Vice President WANG Jiansong, on behalf of the Academy, completed the 2020 to 2021 handover ceremony of the exhibition as organizers of the exhibition under the witness of the experts and scholars attending the event.

After the taking of group photos, the experts and scholars were guided by Mr. WANG Jiansong to visit key exhibitions such as the "From Seeds to Harvest - Special Exhibition for the Anniversary of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University" and the "Where Art Meets Science · A Better Future is Created" International Exhibition, which were on display at the Academy. They also visited workshops and labs such as the International Industrial Design Center and the Design Science and Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory. 

After the tour, the main persons in charge of the various activities of the exhibition participated in a working seminar, and through detailed discussions and in-depth exchanges, the program of activities for the exhibition was once again refined with the gaps filled, so that the preparatory work could be put on the right track. This also gave the members of the organizing committee of the exhibition confidence and anticipation for the upcoming exhibition.

The "Harmonious Mental Space" China Spatial Art and Construction Exhibition 2021 will be unveiled on September 25, 2021 at Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research ("the Academy") for on-site creation and open to the public on September 26. With the theme of "Arts, Crafts, Science and Technology", the exhibition is intended to guide the teachers and students from the institutions participating in the exhibition to explore how fine art, art, science and technology could be integrated to facilitate high-quality social, economic and cultural development. It is believed that this exhibition could serve as a platform for exchange, cooperation and collaborative innovation for teachers and students from art and design colleges nationwide, and explore the development potentials of the intersection of art, design and cutting-edge technology through the interdisciplinary combination of various art forms with science, such as environmental art, spatial art, public art, installation art and sculpture art.
