University-Enterprise Cooperation Energizes New Industrial Development

On the morning of January 29, 2023, ZHANG Haijian, Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of Qingdao West Coast New Area Working Committee and Director of the Qingdao West Coast New Area Talent Recruitment Center, together with YAN Binglin, Chairman of Shandong Haipuou Environmental Protection Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., a national-level specialized and sophisticated “Little Giant” enterprise, and his delegation attended a symposium at the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research. LIU Weidong, Assistant to the Dean of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, accompanied.

The guests first came to the Art and Science Experience Center to visit the international works exhibition under the theme of "Where Art Meets Science · A Better Future is Created" and the "Works Exhibition of Chinese Style Art and Design Exposition", a National Key R&D Program conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. LIU Weidong, Assistant to the Dean, showed the guests the outstanding achievements of the integration and innovation of art and science. The guests later visited the supporting facilities, including incubators, restaurants, and condominiums, and better understood the university-enterprise cooperation model.

At the symposium, LIU Jizhen, Director of the Talent Policy Department of the Qingdao West Coast New Area Talent Recruitment Center, introduced to the participants the basic working ideas of the Organization Department of Qingdao West Coast New Area Working Committee and Qingdao West Coast New Area Talent Recruitment Center behind their decision to depend on the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research to build a provincial-level vital talent bonanza, as well as their progress to date. He also made a systematic presentation on the location, industry, economic operation level, and other development advantages of Qingdao West Coast New Area.

CHEN Hanquan, Senior Director of the Talent Recruitment Office of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, said that the Academy, as the only dispatched institute of Tsinghua University in Shandong Province, will fully tap into multi-dimensional resources such as the high-level talent pool of Tsinghua University, scientific research achievements of all disciplines, the experience concerning the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements of its dispatched peers, and the alumni entrepreneurs. The Academy will also take advantage of multi-party collaboration, the integration of multiple forces of innovation, and resource-sharing in multiple fields to profoundly promote the development of Shandong's industrial and talent chains. The Academy serves as a great solution to the "technology blockade" bottlenecks and talent shortages for enterprises in Shandong Province and a role model for university-city integration and university-enterprise cooperation in Qingdao under current circumstances.

YAN Binglin, Chairman of Shandong Haipuou Environmental Protection Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., holds high hopes for the launch of the university-enterprise cooperation platform. He advocated for talent-driven innovation and expressed optimism that the Academy would serve as a seedbed for the group's R&D institution and international trade center.

LIU Weidong, Assistant to the Dean of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, said that the Academy is making the most of Tsinghua University's advantages in all disciplines, talents, and platforms to promote the broader and deeper interdisciplinary and cross-industry integration of academic achievements and local industries, and create a significant multi-disciplinary cross-integration innovation-led demonstration base. The Academy will also serve as an innovation driver for regional transformation and development, facilitate the deep integration of "government, industry, universities, research institutes, finance, service, and commercialization", and promote high-quality industrial development in Shandong Province.
