“Initiating Design Life” TASA Salon Successfully Held

Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA) successfully held the “Initiating Design Life” TASA Salon event on April 22, 2024. The salon aimed to provide an academic exchange platform, promote interaction between universities and enterprises, deepen cooperation in industry-university-research development, and further expand the social influence of TASA in the field of art and scientific innovation.

The event received enthusiastic responses from the faculty and students of the Industrial Design Department of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology. It also invited ZHANG Yapeng, General Manager of Qingdao Qinweijing Design Co., Ltd., and WU Xiaolin, Co-Founder of Qingdao Enjoywood Education Technology Co., Ltd., to address the salon. They shared their experiences and valuable insights in the design field, discussing together the future development directions of design. TASA strives to empower the development of industry-university-research cooperation, fostering deep collaboration between research institutes, universities, and enterprises from the perspectives of art and scientific innovation, and building an important bridge for talent introduction.

张亚朋

ZHANG Yapeng, General Manager of Qingdao Qinweijing Design Co., Ltd., thoroughly analyzed the development trends and challenges in the design field based on his own company, and introduced integrated thinking to provide systematic product solutions, product innovation frameworks, and active identification of market demands. Centered around the theme of “How higher education in industrial design closely connects with professional positions”, he comprehensively explained the conventional industrial design process and its logic from end to beginning through case sharing to the attending faculty and students. Lastly, he shared his insights on industrial design and presented unique views on the future development of the design field, sparking enthusiastic discussions and deep reflections among the attendees.

吴晓林

WU Xiaolin, Co-Founder of Qingdao Enjoywood Education Technology Co., Ltd., showcased the practical application of industrial design in the field of educational equipment from the perspective of educational technology. He delved into the core position of design and innovation in the education industry, and presented the way of balancing the needs of craftsmanship, teachers, and students in the industrial design of teaching platforms through practical examples, ensuring the rational layout, the compact structure, and the mobility of the platform. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of building design and innovation capabilities in the education industry and highlighted that developing a professional education system integrating art and technology holds profound significance for enhancing the overall competitiveness of the country.

王凤朝

WANG Fengchao, Senior Manager of TASA, elaborated on the various research contents of the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Prototype Laboratory. Against the backdrop of technological innovation and academic progress, the laboratory is dedicated to conducting fundamental research in the field of design, exploring in-depth applications of basic theories and technological practices in intelligent manufacturing, and assembly process innovation, and aiming to enhance the level of theoretical research in production design. Through the introduction of the laboratory’s research projects, he interpreted the value and significance of design from multiple perspectives, further expanding the boundaries of the audience’s design thinking.

徐颖

XU Ying, Senior Manager of TASA, shared valuable insights and experiences on future physical book design. She thoroughly analyzed how book design influences people’s reading experience and emotional resonance around aspects such as cover format, layout structure, paper selection, printing, and binding from the perspective of visual communication design, focusing on graphic visuals, and guiding the audience to appreciate the charm of the integration of design and culture. She stated that book design is not only the presentation of visual art, but also a carrier of cultural heritage. In the pursuit of the interesting path to the “mountain of knowledge”, designers should continue to innovate to bring readers a richer reading experience.

During the interactive session, topics such as the future development of industrial design, industry trends, and innovative practices have attracted wide attention and sparked lively discussions among the teachers and students present. Students of the Industrial Design Department of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology actively asked questions, and the guest speakers patiently answered and engaged in in-depth discussions.

The successful outcome of this salon not only showcases the academic influence of TASA, but also injects new impetus into the development of the Chinese design industry through a series of salon activities for university teachers and students.
