Contemporary Transformation of Traditional Culture - WANG Jiansong, Deputy Dean of the Academy Attended the "2022 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week" and Delivered a Keynote Speech

From 3 to 4 of December 2022, the seminar on “Reflection and Development of China-ASEAN International Education in the Post-pandemic Period” during the “China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week” was successfully held at the Krirk University in Thailand. The “China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week”, organized by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Guizhou Provincial Government, is an event held since 2008 to promote friendship, education cooperation and cultural exchange between China and ASEAN. This seminar, which is a year-round activity of the “2022 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week”, was jointly organized by Krirk University (Thailand), China International School (Thailand), and Beijing Language and Culture University under the guidance of the China Education Association for International Exchange and the China-ASEAN International Education Association (Thailand), with the main venue set at the International Academic Conference Centre of Krirk University. It was broadcast on more than ten mainstream media live streaming platforms such as Chinanet+(central media), NetEase, Sina, and Tiktok in Thai, Chinese and English for the whole world. More than 3,000 experts and scholars from China, Thailand, the UK, Russia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Myanmar, as well as more than 100 Chinese and Thai institutions as co-organizers of the conference, participated online. Nearly three million people watched the live streaming during the seminar. Messages of congratulation were also sent by Atthayut Srisamut, Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in China, Kang Kai, Education Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Héctor Conde Almeida, Ambassador of the Embassy of Cuba in Thailand, and Thunch Dalin, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand, wishing the seminar great success.

Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research participated in this event as a co-organizer. This themed seminar featured four keynote presentation sessions on the topics of “Sino-Thai New Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange”, “Cultural Integration of Education Technology in the Post-Pandemic Era”, “Creative Transformation and Overseas Exchange of Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture Education in the Post-Pandemic Era” and “Opportunities and Challenges Faced by High Schools in the Context of the Normalization of the Pandemic”.

WANG Jiansong, Executive Deputy Dean of the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, participated in the sub-forum themed “Creative Transformation and Overseas Exchange of Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture Education in the Post-Pandemic Era” on behalf of the Academy, and was invited to give a keynote speech entitled "Contemporary Transformation of Traditional Culture: The Practice of Protection and Inheritance of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research", introducing the Academy’s practical experience in traditional culture protection and innovative development research to the participating experts and scholars. Wang Jiansong said that Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research is the only dispatched academy of Tsinghua University in China with the development purpose of integrating and innovating art and science, and it is a research institution based on university-local government cooperation mode to implement the "Strategy of Developing a Strong Culture" and "Innovation-driven Development Strategy" of China. It is the responsibility of the Academy to activate the vitality of the excellent Chinese traditional culture with the spirit of the times. He also introduced the practical history of the cooperation between the “Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University - BMW Innovation Center for ICH Safeguarding” and Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, and comprehensively demonstrated the practical experience and rich achievements obtained by the Academy in the contemporary transformation of traditional culture. He introduced to the representatives present at the seminar Beautiful China: The Collection of Creative Cases of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which collects 29 cases of one-on-one cooperation between the representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in China and the instructors of AADTHU. It vividly and accurately records the course, experience and feelings in terms of cooperation between designers and ICH inheritors, and reflects the thinking, exploration and innovative practice of ICH inheritors on consumer insight, product line research and development, marketing and other aspects in recent years in the process of "intangible cultural heritage into modern life". At last, WANG Jiansong conveyed the vision of cooperation and exchange to all the participants, and sincerely hoped that through this exchange, the practical experience of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research in China's intangible cultural heritage would be shared with the world, realizing mutual promotion and common development, and contributing to the inheritance of the common cultural heritage of mankind.

Moreover, other guests also gave speeches and they were Prof. WANG Zhong, the doctoral instructor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the director of the China Public Art Research Center (speech topic: "Artistic Creation and Cultural State"), and Prof. CUI Donghui, the Deputy Director of the School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (speech topic: "Winter Olympics and Country Image").

China National Society for the Promotion of Arts and Culture (CNSPAC) was an important supporting organization of this event, Chairman YANG Xiaoyang delivered a speech and announced the establishment of the Professional Committee of Traditional Culture and Education of CNSPAC and issued a letter of appointment. Mr. CHANG Shana, the former dean of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, was invited as the honorary director, and WANG Jiansong, the executive deputy dean of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research was invited as the deputy director. Other experts and scholars were also appointed as deputy directors including LI Liguang, CUI Donghui, WANG Kaihong and HOU Libin.
