Symposium on the Development of Cultural Tourism and Cultural Creativity Industry of Qingdao West Coast New Area Held at Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research

On the morning of November 3, 2023, Zheng Guixin, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Culture and Tourism of Qingdao West Coast New Area, Lyu Da, Curator of the Museum of Culture and Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of Qingdao West Coast New Area, relevant persons in charge of the Art Museum of the West Coast New Area,   inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in the West Coast New Area, and representatives of entrepreneurs in the cultural tourism and cultural creativity industries, visited Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (hereinafter referred to as “the Academy”), and attended the symposium on the development of cultural tourism and cultural creativity industry of Qingdao West Coast New Area. Liu Weidong, Secretary of the Party Branch and Assistant to the Dean of the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, accompanied and attended the symposium.

The visitors first visited the Art and Science Experience Center, the International Design Industry Laboratory, and viewed the International Art & Science Collaborative Innovation Works Exhibition themed “Where Art Meets Science · A Better Future is Created” sponsored by the Academy. The team of the Academy introduced the Academy’s founding philosophy and its excellent achievements in the field of art and science integration and innovation.

At the symposium, Deputy Director Zheng Guixin introduced the development of the cultural tourism and cultural creativity industry of the West Coast New Area. She pointed out that the landing of the Academy in the new area has brought the top disciplines and talent resources of Tsinghua University, strongly boosting the development of related industries in the West Coast New Area. It is believed that the prosperity of the Academy would empower the high-quality development of the West Coast New Area in various aspects, and lead to high-level cooperation in cross-disciplinary innovation. Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the West Coast New Area. It is expected that under the leadership of the Academy, all parties could create excellent cultural and creative works to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the West Coast New Area, and promote the development of cultural tourism, cultural creativity industries, as well as public art in urban and rural areas.

Curator Lyu Da expressed that this visit has been very rewarding and will promote artistic cooperation and exchanges between the Museum of Culture of Qingdao West Coast New Area and the Academy. He looks forward to professional guidance and support from the Academy in the areas of artistic activities on festivals, art performances, rural revitalization, and “intangible cultural heritage entering campuses”. Meanwhile, he hopes that the Academy could participate in the development of the West Coast New Area’s online stage and classroom, bringing more high-level art exhibitions and art education courses to the local area.

Liu Wei, Curator of the Art Museum of Qingdao West Coast New Area, hopes to showcase the style of local art and Lunar New Year’s painting of the West Coast New Area through the platform effect of the Academy, so that the cultural characteristics of the West Coast New Area can be known to a wider range of people. Moreover, the creation of cultural and creative products, which are in line with the characteristics of the West Coast New Area, can be empowered by design.

Xin Xin, Director of the Hongde Traditional Culture Exchange Center in the Qingdao West Coast New Area, hopes to cooperate with the Academy in cultural creativity and urban image. Thanks to the supporting policies of the West Coast New Area, the two sides could promote the commercial development of cultural and creative products, and design more popular and trendy cultural and creative products.

Gao Guigui, the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage Jiaonan Lunar New Year’s Painting, stated that it is worth considering how to better popularize intangible cultural heritage. She is delighted to build contact with the Academy, hoping to strengthen the commercialization and promotion of intangible cultural heritage works through cultural and creative products.

Secretary Liu Weidong presided over the symposium and welcomed the visitors. He said that, the cultural and creative industries could immensely drive the development of the new area. Currently, the Academy is fully leveraging the comprehensive disciplinary advantages of Tsinghua University to empower the high-quality development of the West Coast New Area and support the development of cultural tourism, cultural creativity industries, and cultural construction in the new area. The Academy attaches great importance to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the West Coast New Area and will provide services to the West Coast New Area, drive interdisciplinary cultural and creative cooperation, and dedicate excellent cultural and creative works to the West Coast New Area.

During the symposium, the persons in charge of relevant business directions at the Academy shared the achievements and contributions of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University and Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research in the fields of cultural and creative industry and public art. The inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in the West Coast New Area also delivered speeches and engaged in free discussions on topics such as the integration of their respective intangible cultural skills with cultural and creative products. The collision of ideas inspired cooperation ideas and interaction concepts. The Academy has gathered the cooperation intentions proposed by various parties, hoping to gather industries, pool talents, and jointly promote the development of cultural tourism, cultural creativity industries and cultural construction in the West Coast New Area.
