A Visit to TASA by a Delegation Led by Peter CHILDS, Fellow of the RAE

On December 11, a delegation led by Peter CHILDS, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE), Founding Head of the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London, and Co-director of the Energy Futures Lab, visited the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA). They were accompanied by ZHAO Chao, Vice President of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (AADTHU) and Vice President of TASA, and LIU Weidong, Secretary of the Party Branch and Assistant to the Dean of TASA.

The delegation's first stop was at the Art and Science Experience Center, where they visited the "Integrating Arts & Science, Creating Future with Quality" International Art and Design Works Exhibition, the Global Sportswear Design Award Excellent Works Exhibition, and the Exhibition on Health, Well-being and Senior-friendly Design. Vice President ZHAO Chao introduced the results of AADTHU’s teaching practice  in the field of age-friendly design in recent years, focusing on forward-looking design concepts for elderly users related to medical care, food, nursing, mobility, and behavior. Professor Peter CHILDS showed great interest and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on the innovative application of inclusive design concepts in the lives of elderly users.

The delegation visited the 3D printing area, CNC processing area, NC processing area, technical processing area, and other areas in the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Prototype Laboratory, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the various technical facilities and services provided by the laboratory. In the 3D printing area, Vice President ZHAO Chao highlighted the design support for and technical service results from the combination of production, education, and research provided by the laboratory for enterprises, universities, scientific research institutions, etc., and showed the current capability of the laboratory to provide 3D scanning and 3D printing prop production services for the film and television industry.

At the Design Laboratory of the International Industrial Research Department, the delegation visited the "Sowing and Sprouting, Ripening and Harvesting - Special Exhibition for the Anniversary of the Founding of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University", where Vice President ZHAO Chao highlighted the development strategy and research field of TASA, and emphasized the significant role of TASA in promoting design innovation, interdisciplinary cooperation and the integration of art and science. The delegation also visited the office space of the designer team to feel the working environment and atmosphere of innovative design.

Vice President ZHAO Chao welcomed the visit of Professor Peter CHILDS and his delegation. He said that TASA has been actively promoting high-level international exchanges and cooperation, and hoped that through the exchanges and interactions during this visit, both parties would further expand their cooperation in arts, science, and other cross-disciplinary fields, and integrate TASA's own advantages with the resources of international partners to make greater contributions to improving the capabilities and intelligence of design in empowering industries.

Professor Peter CHILDS, with great hope for the prospects of cooperation between the two parties and confidence in the next step of cooperation in the fields of science, art, and design, said that he would use this visit as an opportunity to promote deeper cooperation with TASA and explore the endless possibilities of the future together.
