TASA brings an international new hub for industrial design to Qingdao with joint endeavors from universities and the city
On the morning of April 24, 2023, a delegation led by David GROSSMAN, Former President of International Council of Design (ICoD), and ZHAO Chao, Vice President of ICoD, Vice President of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and Vice President of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA), visited Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology and had in-depth exchanges of views with Deputy Director-General ZHANG Jincan on the matters such as leveraging the influence of TASA to introduce international design resources for empowering the high-quality development of Qingdao's design-related industries. The exchange symposium was also attended by PAN Ping, Director of Science and Technology Division, and WU Shisen, Level I Division Rank Official, from Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, MA Jianwei, Chairman of Qingdao Industrial Design Association, and LIU Weidong, Secretary of Party Branch and Assistant to the Dean at TASA.
Vice President ZHAO Chao introduced the historical development of TASA and the fast facts of ICoD. According to him, Tsinghua University undertakes the important mission of serving national industrial development and ICoD is committed to promoting the development of international design. He hoped that TASA, under the guidance and support of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, would give full play to the advantages of resources as both a university and an international organization, lead the direction of industrial innovation development, and help Qingdao build a new cluster for industrial design.
Chairman MA Jianwei analyzed the development situation of Qingdao's design industry and discussed the innovative paths and key models that might promote the design industry to achieve further progress in the future. He said that Qingdao Industrial Design Association would work together with ICoD and TASA in such areas as industry-university-research interaction, enterprise empowerment, and public service platform building to explore the new potential of the design industry.
Mr. GROSSMAN spoke highly of the industrial base and development prospects of Qingdao and the development results achieved by TASA. He believed that the soft power of a country is an important part of the comprehensive national power nowadays, and it is crucial for the development of the design industry to value the cultivation of design culture and the education system construction for design talent. As TASA boasts a great development potential, he expected that Qingdao could leverage TASA's innovative "industry-university-research" linkage model, align talent training in universities to technology research in enterprises, build an innovative practice base with Qingdao characteristics for design talent, and develop a "Qingdao paradigm" for industrial design development.
Deputy Director-General ZHANG Jincan welcomed the visiting guests and said that Qingdao hoped to join hands with TASA to build a design cluster with a host of high-end design resources. It was aimed to gather leading design talent, showcase cutting-edge design achievements, provide diversified service support for Qingdao-based enterprises and boost the breakthrough development of design-related industries. The development of the design industry cannot be achieved without the contribution of talent. TASA was hoped to keep introducing first-class resources from home and abroad, stimulate the innovative vitality of the design industry, promote talent gathering and ecosystem building, and lead Qingdao to achieve new development in the design industry.
Design is an important way to promote the integrated innovation of art and science.
