Introduction

Transportation Research & Innovation Design Lab (TX-LAB), Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA) is a research and innovation institution for future mobility rooted in Qingdao with nationwide impact. It was built upon Tsinghua University's profound academic heritage and forward-looking industry insights. Led by professors from the Transportation Design program of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University ("AADTHU") and the Institute of Design Management, Tsinghua University, its core members specialize in researching transportation innovation and demand evolution amid demographic shifts.

TX-LAB has built an "Academic Leadership + Technical Support + International Empowerment" matrix: It leverages the technological expertise of the Institute of Design Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, and integrates international resources and expertise from Continental AG, Lürssen Yachts, and STUDIOKURBOS.

Capitalizing on TASA's strengths in industrial implementation, TX-LAB has broken down disciplinary barriers and focused on national strategic industries such as the low-altitude economy, forming cross-domain teams to address needs precisely. Through the application of the "research-driven innovative design" system and methodology, the end-to-end workflow and translation system have accelerated original innovations, strengthening the localized incubation of "technology + innovation" in the mobility sector. Its goal is to explore product paradigms for intelligent low-carbon and low-altitude mobility, establish mechanisms for matching technology with scenarios, and build an international innovation platform to lead industrial transformation, stimulate nationwide university students' interest in the future mobility field, and facilitate technological breakthroughs and ecological upgrades in the mobility sector.
 

Carrying forward Tsinghua's founding aspiration for art education, TX-LAB empowers future mobility by design to lead transportation transformation, cultivate talents, revitalize industries, and co-build a human-centered future mobility ecosystem. Work

1. Academic research: Relying on the Institute of Design Management, Tsinghua University and its profound academic heritage and with a focus on core issues in future mobility, TX-LAB systematically conducts research on innovative vehicle design theories and the evolution mechanisms of travel demands amid demographic shifts. By anticipating mobility trends in conjunction with societal development and technological innovation, it provides solid theoretical underpinnings for industrial innovation.

2. Design innovation: Led by professors from AADTHU's Transportation Design program, TX-LAB has been dedicated to the design of core future mobility carriers such as vehicles, low-altitude aircraft, and intelligent cockpits. Based on global resources, TX-LAB has embedded technological feasibility and humanistic needs into design practices, and established innovative paradigms for intelligent, low-carbon, and low-altitude transportation products.

3. Technology transformation: With "Academic Leadership + Technical Support + International Empowerment" as the core framework and building upon Qingdao's industrial advantages, TX-LAB has driven the deep integration of technological R&D and innovative design, established multi-disciplinary teams with a focus on national demands such as low-altitude economy, achieved localized incubation of "technology + design" outcomes though a full-chain transformation system, and bridged the connection between the innovation chain and the industry chain.

4. Social activities: TX-LAB has launched special activities on future mobility design for college students nationwide and built an academic exchange platform. It has also organized the Future Mobility Innovation Summit, gathered industry-university-research forces to disseminate cutting-edge concepts, strengthened talent cultivation and gathering of innovation resources, and highlighted the industry-leading value of TASA.
