The Academy Holds Symposium Themed "Promoting Cooperation Between University & Local Government and Integrating Arts & Science"

On the morning of December 2, 2022, to promote in-depth cooperation between the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research and the local government and accelerate the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, WANG Lei, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice-chairperson of the Tengzhou Women's Federation and the temporary Vice-chairperson of the Women's Federation of Qingdao West Coast New Area, and LI Ciwu, Deputy Director of Tengzhou Audit Bureau and temporary Deputy Director of Audit Bureau of Qingdao West Coast New Area, led a team of 18 officials from Tengzhou to visit the Academy for observation and research, as well as attend a symposium on "Promoting Cooperation Between University & Local Government and Integrating Arts & Science". LIU Weidong, Assistant to the Dean of the Academy participated in the research and discussions.

Before the symposium, the visitors visited the Art and Science Experience Center, the International Industrial Design Laboratory, the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Prototype Workshop, as well as the "Sowing and Sprouting, Ripening and Harvesting—Special Exhibition of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University", which was inspected and visited by General Secretary Xi Jinping, the "Where Art Meets Science · A Better Future is Created" art and science co-creation international exhibition, and other exhibitions, gaining a profound understanding of the Academy's development concept and strategy.

The symposium was chaired by CHEN Hanquan, Senior Director of the Talent Recruitment Office of the Academy. CHEN Hanquan briefly introduced the visit to the High-level Talent Project Exhibition in Qingdao West Coast New Area paid by LI Yi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Tengzhou Municipal Party Committee, Minister of the Tengzhou United Front Work Department, and Minister of the Tengzhou Organization Department, accompanied by LIU Luying, Member of the Standing Committee of Qingdao West Coast New Area Committee and Director of the Organization Department of Qingdao West Coast New Area, as well as the temporary work of the officials from Tengzhou in West Coast New Area.

LIU Weidong, Assistant to the Dean, greeted the guests on behalf of the Academy. He said the Academy is the only research institute dispatched by Tsinghua University, a forerunner of higher education in China, in Shandong Province. He pointed out that the Academy is a platform for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements of all disciplines of Tsinghua University in Shandong Province and an outpost for the university to serve the development of the local industries and economy. Tengzhou City is listed as one of the top 100 counties (cities) in China, with a solid and complete industrial foundation and a clear development orientation. Based in Qingdao and radiating to Shandong, the Academy is relying on the disciplinary advantages of Tsinghua University to accelerate the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and promote the high-quality development of industry empowered by science and technology in Shandong province. At present, through the methods such as the transformation of scientific research results and professional talent gathering, the Academy not only provides theoretical think tank support for local governments, but also solves the actual technical bottlenecks and talent demand issues for enterprises, truly realizing in-depth integration of "government, industry, universities, research institutes, finance, service, and commercialization" as a whole, and collaboratively promoting high-quality industrial development.

Vice-chairperson WANG Lei was impressed by the Academy's achievements in the integration of industrial design and scientific innovation and the new generation of 3D printing equipment laboratory. She said that Tengzhou is focusing on two hundred-billion-yuan industries, high-end equipment and high-end chemical and six ten-billion-yuan industries including new energy and new materials, and the new generation of information technology. The development of Tengzhou depends on the industry, and the gathering and upgrading of the industry depends on professional talents. In the next step, the Tengzhou government will learn from Qingdao West Coast New Area the good practice of industry gathering and university-city integration, and look forward to in-depth cooperation with the Academy at a higher level to empower the local development of Tengzhou.

Afterwards, under the theme of "Promoting Cooperation Between University & Local Government and Integrating Arts & Science", and based on the actual work practice, the participants carried out in-depth and systematic discussions and exchanges from different perspectives. YANG Jiaqu, the training cadre of Zaozhuang City to Qingdao, the Deputy Town Chief of Jisuo Town, Tengzhou City, and the temporary Deputy Director of Xin'an sub-district, West Coast New Area introduced the development plan for the machine tool industry, lithium battery industry and high-end chemical industry in Tengzhou and practical issues encountered by enterprises at present. The Assistant to the Dean LIU Weidong gave detailed answers to the questions raised by the visiting guests and made in-depth exchanges. He said that Tengzhou should base itself on the existing industrial base, comprehensively arrange the upstream and downstream logic of the industry, and build a new development pattern. Moreover, he looked forward to establishing strategic cooperation with the Tengzhou municipal government and enterprises to achieve information exchange, resource sharing, and complementary advantages, and promote the high-quality development of the local economy and society.
