Empowered by Design & Updating Everything ｜ Introduction to the Three Major Exhibitions in the Design Impression · Qingdao Design Festival 2022

The "Design Impression · Qingdao Design Festival 2022", organized by Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, was inaugurated on November 29, 2022. This design festival is sponsored by the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, organized by Qingdao Daily Press Group and Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, and supported by Qingdao West Coast New Area Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Qingdao West Coast New Area Talent Recruitment Center (University-City Integration Office), and the Development and Construction Headquarters of Qingdao Lingshan Bay Film and Television Cultural Industrial Zone. In the trend of fully promoting the development of the industry empowered by design, and under the theme of "Empowered by Design & Updating Everything", this design festival aims to provide vitality of innovation and power of design to the quality development of Qingdao by driving industrial upgrade through design with the support of innovation, and to revitalize and empower the city, serve people's livelihood and fully unleash the Academy's potential for innovation on design.

Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research has planned and conducted the festival, and set six sections including "design competition", "design exhibition", "award ceremony", "academic exchange", "online voting" and "media's exploration" and over ten activities. This event will build up an efficient platform for exchange and cooperation in the fields of design, industry and academy, promote the innovative development of the new liberal arts across disciplines and fields, improve the overall aesthetic accomplishment of the public and make active contributions to the national economy and the people's livelihood by means of research results of art design disciplines.

Three exhibitions in the "design exhibition" section, including the Excellent Works Exhibition of the "Design Impression · Qingdao Design Festival 2022" Competition/Qingdao Enterprise Guest Exhibition for the Prize-winning Works of the 4th Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition, the Excellent Works Exhibition of the Global Sportswear Design Award, and the Exhibition on Health, Well-being and Senior-friendly Design, are on display to the public in Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research.

The Excellent Works Exhibition of the "Design Impression · Qingdao Design Festival 2022" Competition/Qingdao Enterprise Guest Exhibition for Prize-winning Works of the 4th Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition is on display at Hall 3, the Art and Science Experience Center of the Academy.

The "Design Impression · Qingdao Design Festival 2022" exhibition focuses on different fields, including industry, construction, fashion, digital economy and service sector, while also concerning other hot points, such as fashion consumption, industrial equipment, urban renewal and conceptual design. With the efforts from industrial enterprises, design institutions, designers, and consumers, and through the popularization of the design concept to raise the awareness of the whole society to design, the exhibition aims to improve the innovation ability, make design results emerge, and ultimately step up the goal of urban development.

Highlights:

The Excellent Works Exhibition of the Global Sportswear Design Award is on display at the hallway of the 2nd Floor of the Art and Science Experience Center in the Academy.

Tsinghua University, China's famous college with a long history in sports, is the organizer of the Global Sportswear Design Award. It has gathered the support of various institutions from home and abroad. With a focus on the professional field of sports chic, it collects excellent design works from all over the world with comprehensive, high-level, and high-specification standards. The design competition has received 1,512 works of 268 players from universities, middle schools, and institutions in 24 countries and regions in the world. Finally, 35 works were awarded and on display at this exhibition.

The Exhibition on Health, Well-being and Senior-friendly Design is on display at hallway 4, the Art and Science Experience Center of the Academy.

As population aging has become an important issue of global concern, universities and colleges, the platform for cultivating service-oriented talents for society should be brave explorers with a focus on social problems and boosting humanistic care.

Based on the elderly users and the concept of age-appropriate design, the exhibition of "senior-friendly design" is the achievements of the teaching practice of teachers and students from the Industrial Design Department of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in recent years. There are 32 cases in the exhibition that conduct research and creations under the inclusive design concept for elderly users referring to medical care, food, nursing, behavior, and action. It will ultimately design and create a series of products and service systems with forward-look values from the perspective of the people, product and environment. It is expected that the exhibition could create a more inclusive future life for elderly users.
