Empowering Industries and Envisioning a New Chapter of University-City Integration

On May 18, a delegation of experts and scholars including WANG Yan, Director of Office of Domestic Cooperation, Tsinghua University, GU Jin, Party Committee Secretary of the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University, GE Dongyun, Deputy Party Committee Secretary of the School of Aerospace Engineering, Tsinghua University, LIN Yakai and ZHANG Jisong, Deputy Directors of the National Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Low-Carbon Technology, Tsinghua University, ZHAO Chenzi, Assistant Researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University, and JIANG Chao, Senior Supervisor of the Office of Domestic Cooperation, Tsinghua University, were invited to visit TASA to investigate its services supporting university discipline development and local industrial growth. ZHAO Yingmin, member of the Leading Party Group and Deputy District Mayor of the People’s Government of Huangdao District, Qingdao, and ZHANG Haijian, Deputy Head of the Organization Department of the Party Working Committee of Qingdao West Coast New Area, also participated in the investigation.

The visiting experts conducted field research at the Art and Science Experience Center, Design Laboratory of the International Industrial Research Department, and Advanced Manufacturing and Design Prototype Workshop and gained insights into the developmental achievements and future plans of TASA. They also inspected the R&D centers of enterprises stationed at the Yellow River Basin Talent Collaborative Innovation Center. The visiting experts and leaders affirmed TASA’s innovative incubation and industrial transformation mechanisms.

The parties engaged in in-depth discussions on key aspects and related issues regarding the transformation of university scientific and technological achievements in Qingdao. They unanimously agreed to leverage Qingdao’s needs and Tsinghua’s strengths, and take TASA as a transformation platform to strengthen university-industry R&D collaboration in the “10+1” innovation sectors, which aimed to attract more Tsinghua talents and technological achievements to Qingdao, foster pioneering industrial innovations, and fully invigorate Qingdao’s scientific and technological innovation.

In the next step, TASA will continue to diligently implement the construction expectations and development goals set by the university and local government, fulfill its fundamental role in promoting university-city integration, and serve local industrial development. Leveraging its role as a bridge, TASA will give display to its overall development strategy and regional advantages, integrate Tsinghua University’s multidisciplinary strengths, harness its interdisciplinary innovation characteristics of design to drive innovation and industrial upgrading, and contribute to local social and economic development.
